Mosquito Information Sources
- NASA – Mosquito Distribution Satellite Map – NASA satellite map showing the distribution of four common carriers of West Nile Virus in the United States. The map makes it very clear that there are few safe areas of the country.
- U.S. Geological Survey – West Nile Virus Distribution (2007) – The U.S. Geological Survey produced this map showing the confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in the United States in 2007. Again, very few untouched states.
- CDC – Map of Malaria Species Distribution – A map from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control that shows where various species of Anopheles mosquitoes, the carriers of malaria, can be found around the globe. While it includes the United States, malaria outbreaks are rare and usually start with someone who was infected while traveling outside the U.S.
- University of Florida – Mosquito Resources – A mosquito site maintained by the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. It has photos of common mosquitoes, fact sheets on mosquito-borne diseases, and information about the biology of mosquitoes.
- Rutgers University – SEBS Department of Entomology – This is a good overview of mosquitoes, the dangers they pose and suggestions for controlling them around the house from Rutgers University– Entomology Department.
- American Mosquito Control Association – The American Mosquito Control Association identifies several insects that are often mistaken for mosquitoes and explains the differences.
- Union County Vector Control – Created in June 1968 they have complied a list of useful organizations and websites so that everyone, ranchers, townsfolk and tourists, benefits from mosquito control.
